Tuesday Atlanta Weather Outlook

Temperatures will continue to fall overnight.   We fall to 29 by morning.  There is a freeze warning in effect overnight until 10am Tuesday.  This freeze warning is mainly for agricultural reasons.  Now that we are into the month of March, some trees and plants are beginning to bud.  These temperatures could damage some of that new growth here at the beginning of the growing season.  We will be below freeze for about 6 hours or so.  We will move back up above the freezing mark between 9 and 10am.

We will have a mix of sun and clouds during the day Tuesday.  Temperatures will warm to 48 by afternoon.  We will warm a little more Wednesday with a better rain chance by Thursday.

Freeze Warning Criteria

I've had a few questions asking why we have a freeze warning overnight with temperatures down to 29 degrees Tuesday when we didn't have a freeze warning when temperatures have been colder.  A freeze warning is issued mainly for agricultural reasons.  It is only issued during the growing season.  Freeze warnings are issued after March first and usually not after November 20th.

The NWS doesn't usually issue freeze warnings in much of December, January and February because it is not part of the growing season and it is supposed to be cold then.  We can have numerous days in December, January and February below freezing, but no freeze warning will be issued.

Atlanta Weather | Freeze Watch Tonight Could Hurt Tender Plants

Atlanta Weather | Freeze Watch Tonight Could Hurt Tender Plants

Temps are starting off mild with rain this morning, but a cold front pushing through the area will drop our temps down this afternoon and tonight. Temps will be falling into the low 30s for overnight lows and therefore a Freezing Watch is in effect for this evening through Tuesday morning. Temps could remain below freezing in and around the watch area from midnight to 10am Tuesday. The cold air could damage or kill tender plants.
Here are a few tips to help you:
                    1. Bring potted plants indoors.
                    2. If you can’t bring them in, apply a layer of mulch (2 to 3 inches thick)

Atlanta Weather | Sunday Forecast

We start today off with just a few clouds, but that cloud cover gradually increases during the afternoon. High temperatures will be well above normal in the low 70s. Winds will be from the SW around 5-10mph.

Tonight will bring a big increase of cloud cover, followed by rain, mainly after 3am. Overnight low temperatures will be mild in the low 50s.

Rain returns Monday with highs back in the low 60s and stronger winds from the West around 10-15mph, gusting up to 25mph.

Saturday Atlanta Weather Outlook

Saturday will start off with some clouds.  Those clouds will break up to give us more sunshine in the afternoon.  Temperatures will warm up to 60 degrees.  That is the average high for this time of year.  It will get even warmer on Sunday.  Our high will be up to 70.  We will start of Sunday with a few clouds again.  They will break up in the afternoon.

We are still watching the area of rain that will move in on Monday.  There is still a chance for some thunder with this, but right now, it doesn't look severe.  It will cool down after the rain moves out.  There's another area of rain that now looks like it will move up from the south and affect us Wednesday and Thursday.  Temperatures will be in the 50s in the afternoon.

Atlanta Weather | Too Warm In Alaska!!!!

Atlanta Weather | Too Warm In Alaska!!!!

Cold temps are gripping the Northern Plains to the East Coast, meanwhile Alaska is warm, and that could cause problems for their most popular winter sporting event.

The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is set to begin March 1, 2014, however, due to the milder-than-normal weather that has depleted snowpack this winter, mushers may encounter some setbacks.

As nearly 70 mushers get ready to make the 1,000-mile, multiple-day journey from Willow to Nome, the weather does not seem like it is going to cooperate this year but not because of its normal severity. Typically, the troublesome weather conditions that the race faces include winter storms, blizzards, high winds and subzero temperatures. This year is the opposite!
