Atlanta Weather | Wednesday's Forecast

Atlanta Weather | Wednesday's Forecast

Clouds are hanging on again today. We are expecting a few breaks in the clouds this afternoon, but only briefly. High are forecast to reach the low to mid 50s. Slight chance for a shower.
Better chance for showers Thursday as an area of low pressure will move east along the Gulf coast. The low will move up the east coast keeping the chance for showers in the area through Friday morning.

Atlanta Weather | Rain Chance Increasing

Atlanta Weather | Rain Chance Increasing

It will look more like Seattle here over the next few days as the clouds will be hanging around. The chance for rain will also be on the increase over the next couple of days.
A system will form near the Texas coast and deepen as it slides east toward the pan handle of Florida. As it moves closer to the area, the chance of showers will increase, right now best chance for the precip will be Thursday. The temps will be warm enough to support all rain. Up to an inch of rain is possible at this time. The computer models differ on the timing of system. While most agree on the rain over the area on Thursday, some have it clearing the area Thursday evening, and others keep the moisture around through Friday morning. We will fine tune that as we get closer to the event.

Temperatures are expected to remain below average thanks to the clouds and rain chances.

Atlanta Weather | Freeze Watch Tonight Could Hurt Tender Plants

Atlanta Weather | Freeze Watch Tonight Could Hurt Tender Plants

Temps are starting off mild with rain this morning, but a cold front pushing through the area will drop our temps down this afternoon and tonight. Temps will be falling into the low 30s for overnight lows and therefore a Freezing Watch is in effect for this evening through Tuesday morning. Temps could remain below freezing in and around the watch area from midnight to 10am Tuesday. The cold air could damage or kill tender plants.
Here are a few tips to help you:
                    1. Bring potted plants indoors.
                    2. If you can’t bring them in, apply a layer of mulch (2 to 3 inches thick)

Atlanta Weather | Too Warm In Alaska!!!!

Atlanta Weather | Too Warm In Alaska!!!!

Cold temps are gripping the Northern Plains to the East Coast, meanwhile Alaska is warm, and that could cause problems for their most popular winter sporting event.

The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is set to begin March 1, 2014, however, due to the milder-than-normal weather that has depleted snowpack this winter, mushers may encounter some setbacks.

As nearly 70 mushers get ready to make the 1,000-mile, multiple-day journey from Willow to Nome, the weather does not seem like it is going to cooperate this year but not because of its normal severity. Typically, the troublesome weather conditions that the race faces include winter storms, blizzards, high winds and subzero temperatures. This year is the opposite!

Atlanta Weather | Sunny, But Cold

Plenty of sunshine for today, but it will not be a warm one. The cold air is in place as temps begin in the 20s in many spots. Despite the sun, we will only see highs reach near 50 degrees.

We will gradually warm up through the weekend as highs reach the low 50s Friday, and back into the 60s Saturday and Sunday.
Next chance for rain will come as we start the work week and that could be followed by another shot of cold air. Stay tuned.

Atlanta Weather | Return Of The Polar Vortex???

Atlanta Weather | Return Of The Polar Vortex???

Cold air returning to the United States today and tomorrow is causing the word “Polar Vortex” to be tossed around again. Arctic air is on the way, but the bitter cold air will not make as deep into the south as it did in early January. The bitter cold will remain over the northern plains as temperatures in places like North and South Dakota will be 30 and 40 degrees below zero!
It will get colder here in North GA.  Temperatures will only reach the 40s for highs on Wednesday, then dip into 20s. So the coldest air we will feel this week will be over us on Thursday morning. We will gradually warm up as we get into the weekend.

The polar vortex, is not a storm but a "planetary-scale mid- to high-latitude circumpolar cyclonic circulation, extending from the middle troposphere to the stratosphere," according to a portion of the American Meteorological Society's recently updated definition.
