Snow Expected In Parts of N Georgia Tonight! | Weather
Update at 4:35. Snow now falling in parts of Gilmer and Fannin counties
Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Parts of N Georgia Through 7am Tomorrow
Yes we are still expecting snow to start moving into the N Georgia mountains within the next 2 hours. Here are the counties:
For the most part this will be a non event, but there will be some areas in the N Georgia mountains that could see 1 to possibly 2 inches of snow by 9-10pm Tonight. The latest forecast suggests that parts of Fanin and Union counties could see a little over an inch. The snow could make it as far south as Gordon to Pickens to Dawson to Northern Hall county. These areas would only see a few flurries at best. From the computer models we can see the upper energy moving in (see below 500mb) at around 5-7pm, with the areas of precip forming right along that blue dashed line (That is generally where the rain changes to snow). All of this suggests that the snow will form between 5:30-7pm tonight and be over by around 10-Midnight. The other wild colored graphic at the bottom is the air about a mile above the surface, notice it blasting into N Georgia tonight at 7.....
Metro Atlanta Weather
We can expect light rain in the metro area on and off this evening with the major cool down starting in Atlanta around 5pm. I don't think we will see any snow here, but it will certainly get very cold over the next few hours! The big change will also be the wind, they will gust out of the NW at around 20-30 and that could cause some problems. Canadian air will blast into the state and temps will go from 50's at 5pm, to 30's by midnight to lower 20's by tomorrow morning. Temps will struggle tomorrow to make it out of the 30's and we will have winds from the NW at around 20-30mph.
