Rain and then BIG Changes Coming to North Georgia | Weather
It's the weekend so you know exactly what that means for us here, rain....... There is what I call a big old bowling ball low out west centered over New Mexico right now that is heading in this direction. What this upper pocket of cold air does is creates a vacuum at the surface that we call low pressure. This sucks all the winds in so you get that counter clockwise flow, thus bringing in all the moisture. This is what fires off all the rain when these things move through.
So according to all the models, the rain will start to move in around 5-6am and will linger on and off all day across the area. There will be some brief pockets of heavier rain, then some moderate rain, then back to some heavy. The heaviest rain will occur as that surface low travels right across the N Georgia border, then another batch will come later tomorrow afternoon into early Sunday morning when the upper low moves overhead! After all is said and done we should see around 1-2 inches..... Saturday will be a total washout....
Sunday will be a much cooler day with highs in the mid to upper 40's.
Then something weird is going to happen. For the first time in a while we are going to go to more of a SW flow at the jet stream and over the next 5 days the cold temps at 5,000 feet will retreat to the northern section of the country and we will start to go on a warming trend. Every day next week we will see temps go up a degree or two and by the end of the week, as you can see below, we will make it into the mid 60's with sunny skies!!! But as you can tell from the last slide below, this pattern will be short lived as it appears we will go back to a cold pattern starting next weekend..... On Saturday again..... I will have the long range outlook later tonight.
