Major Blast of Cold Air Coming Next Week | Weather
It is that time of year when we start to see some cold air spilling down the plains into the SE US. It appears more and more likely that next week will be the first true blast of Canadian air that we have seen this season. I have been looking at the trends from the different models, the GFS and the EURO mainly, and have seen this potential blast get more and more pronounced.
Take a look below at the temperature maps from both models for next Wednesday and Thursday!! This is still a week away, but the models have been trending in the cold direction for the last 3 runs. The model with the higher resolution is the EURO and in my opinion the superior model for winter weather forecasting in the US. This model is painting temps in the 30's at noon next Wednesday for Atlanta, with lows on Thursday morning in the lower 20's for the metro area with teens in the mountains!!
Both models are showing very cold air, possibly the coldest in years for November standards! The EURO is also showing a swath of snow across the northern side of the state as well!!! The GFS is showing this swath of snow in the far NE corner of the state where as the EURO has is across the central and northeastern parts of the state!! This is an issue of timing where the GFS brings the cold air in after the system comes across the state, the EURO brings the upper system across the area after the cold air arrives!!!
Even the AO and the NAO are dropping sharply negative towards the middle of next week!
This is going to be a very interesting week to watch this system develop and head down into the plains. Make sure you bookmark the blog and check my facebook page for updates, I will be posting TONS!!
