Comet Pan-STARRS Visible Starting Tonight | Weather
What is Pann-STARRS
Discovered at the Pan-STARRS telescope on the island of Maui, this beautiful comet will become visible in the western skies of the USA starting later tonight just after sunset. This comet has appeared in the southern hemisphere for the last couple of weeks and will be visible to the naked eye at around a predicted magnitude of +1 to -1 (the lower the number the brighter, most stars around a 0). This will be the brightest comet in the sky since Comet Homes back in 2007!
How and When to See Pan-STARRS
Starting tonight you can look just to the south of west to see the comet just above the horizon. Over the next 2 weeks the comet will get higher and higher in the western sky with the closest approach to the Sun (perihelion) being on March 10th. The I am thinking the best night to view Pan-STARRS will be on the 12th when the comet will be right next to the crescent moon in the western sky!
