View of Meteor's Impact From Space | Weather
Title (Max 100 Characters)
This satellite movie shows, the view from space of the meteor as it slammed into Earth’s atmosphere just above Russia last Friday. You will see in the middle of the screen what appears to be a puff of smoke appear and then dissappear, which is the meteor crossing into the atmosphere.
The METEOSAT-10 satellite (which is the new replacement for METEOSAT-9) provides operational weather and climate monitoring service for Europe and Africa.
These satellites are in what we call geostationary orbits. Bascially they orbit above the Earth's equator, and move in the direction of Earth’s spin, so they can "keep an eye" on the same location.
