Latest Model Runs Have Me Raising Threat Level for Tomorrow | Weather
Title (Max 100 Characters)
The latest runs are in and they are all continuing to suggest an afternoon of severe weather tomorrow. Now I don't want to scare you, but you are going to need t stay tuned to 11alive.com, the blog, and the TV tomorrow as we head through the day. Here is the scenario:
A very powerful storm is heading through AR, MS, LA, MO, and TN as we speak. Tornado watches line up all across the midwest tonight.... That upper disturbance is heading our direction and will push a cold front into N Georgia tomorrow afternoon. The timing on this thing is critical, but here is what I am thinking as of right now:
1pm - Rome towards Dalton
3pm - Lagrance to Dallas to N Cherokee
5pm - Moving through the metro Atlanta area
7pm - Moving into the Athens area
Bottom Line
I am a bit concerned about tomorrow for a few reasons. The push of cold air behind this storm is HUGE, we will see 40-50 degree temperature swings from tomorrow afternoon through Thursday morning!! That push will really drive the upper low through N Georgia hard tomomrrow afternoon. Also, there is a lot of helecity (spin in the atmosphere) that will be in place. The only thing lacking will be instability, values are forecasted to be in the lower 1000's, BUT the winds at around 5,000 feet will be blowing at around 60mph all afternoon!! This system will need to be closely watched!!!
I am raising tomorrows threat level to a 5 with damaging winds being the main threat, but isolated tornadoes could also be possible.
