Looking Towards Next Week, We Could See Storms
Looking Towards Next Week, We Could See Storms

So it is of course January in Georgia and you know what that means...... no, we southerners don't think about snow and deep freezes this time of year, at least I don't... it is that time of year to start thinking about severe weather and next week could be the first shot of the 2013 severe weather season. I know it is still this week, but I always focus my attention towards forecasting the next potential event that way I can focus on all the minor changes that each model produces from run to run.

Next Wednesday

We are and have been in a pretty active pattern the last 4 weeks and that trend will continue this week. Both the GFS and the EURO bring a strong disturbance in from the NW and move it across the region next week. That is the only similarity that both models show....

The GFS zips it across N Georgia next Wednesday night up into the Piedmont by early Thursday, then into new England by Thursday evening. This type of system is the type of system that brings severe weather to the region. Given the pattern we have had lately I don't see this being the solution, the last few systems have come down the plains and broken off into two pieces. One moves across the Midwest, the other one moves slowly into TX and then drifts our way.... That is what happened with the last two systems...

This is what the euro does next week....

The Euro breaks a piece off and stalls it out west and drags a front slowly through the state late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.. when you get pieces that break off and stall out like the last few have,  the chance for severe weather is slim and the chance for cold rain is high...

Bottom Line

It is 6 days out, but I will keep updating the blog as to the threat for storms next week. I am thinking that there is a slim chance, right now I am at about a 1 on a scale of 1-0.
