Overnight Winter Weather Update | Weather
The latest models are still coming in and at least the NAM is still suggesting the Atlanta metro's first real snowfall in 2 years! Here are the latest updates in terms of the latest computer models.
Winter Storm WatchWinter storm watch in effect for tomorrow afternoon through Friday morning for the potential of a nice swath of snow tomorrow. I am starting to think that there could be a swath of 2-4 inches of snow out on I-20 near Carrollton tomorrow afternoon into the evening hours. Here is why my reasoning is changing a bit: Latest NAM Data The latest NAM is continuing to show a cooling trend at the mid levels as it heads towards the metro area. The latest projections take the center of the low just to the south of Atlanta which puts the metro and north into what is called the defamation zone. This is the area in that cold core low that can wind up and put down some big bursts of snow. The good news is that the ground is so warm that I don't think we will see any travel problems, but now even in the metro Atlanta area I think there is a chance of seeing a dusting on the grassy surfaces. Here is the official forecast for tomorrowMetro Counties: A winter mix with minimal accumulations on grassy surfaces (this is up from no accumulations)
North Metro Counties: (Bartow, Floyd, Godron, Pickens, Dawson, Fannin, Gilmer) Could see a dusting to a 1" on the grassy surfaces, no travel problems. (up from a dusting)
North Georgia Mountains: I think there is a good chance that by the time this system is done and gone the mountains could see around 2-3 inches! (up from 1-2")
West Georgia I-20 Corridor: I think there is a good chance that there could be a swath of 1-3" from around Villa Rica to the Alabama border!!
This is a forecast that will continue to evolve over the next 24 hours. Keep checking in with 11alive.com and the blog for all the latest. And of course watch 11alive throughout the day for all the latest updates.
