Severe Threat Overnight Christmas Night | Weather
There is a threat for severe weather overnight Christmas night into early Wednesday morning. As of right now there is a very powerful storm coming in from the west that will kick off a pretty nasty round of severe weather Christmas day for a portion of LA, MS, and AL. In those three states there is a good chance of seeing tornadoes, the storms prediction center has raised the threat level to a moderate which is very height for this time of year. We are looking at a time frame of late afternoon on Christmas Day for LA and MS which means that by the overnight period we should start to see those storms moving towards N Georgia. The fact that we will have a mini wedge in place Christmas Day will help us from the tornado threat, but I think early on Wednesday morning we could see some storms move into the N Georgia area that could produce some wind damage.
I am thinking the time frame for N Georgia will be around 4am on Wednesday morning out west to around 10am in the metro Atlanta area. Storms should really be winding down as they get closer to the metro, so I really think here in central N Georgia it will be almost all rain with a very limited wind threat. None the less, be prepared for changes if anything does change. I will be posting updates over the next few days.
On a scale of 1-10 I give this event a 2 or a low 3 for N Georgia.
