Big Changes Coming Possibly Next Week | Weather

Short Term

The weather over the next few days will be ruled by an area of high pressure to the north. What this will be doing for us is keeping our winds from the north which keeps our humidity and temps low! All the way through Friday we will be seeing afternoon temps in the lower 80's with nice comfortable morning lows in the lower 60's and a few upper 50's depending on how much cloud cover we have. Last night we had a few more clouds than expected so our overnight lows remained a bit higher then the night before. Tonight should be much clearer so our temps will be cooler tonight.

Interesting Changes Next Week

There is a small pocket of cold air aloft that is sort of drifting out west that will start to move in this direction, you can actually see it on the water vapor imagery below. Both of the models, the GFS and the EURO are picking up on this low and bringing it in this direction for the latter half of the weekend. The GFS brings it in this Sunday late in the day, the EURO brings it in here late Monday and has it with heavier rain. I think the GFS is the better solution of the two models simply because both have been way over forecasting the rain thanks to the drought!! So I think we will start to see some rain spread into the state starting late Sunday  night and we could see 1/4-1/2 of an inch. The CPC is also picking up on this trend having us in the above average rain totals for early next week! This could be a nice steady soaker for us! 

About two days later there is a good chance that we could see a major cool down where our temps could be in the 70's in the afternoon!! First of all the AO (Arctic Oscillation) swings to the negative side. All this means is that the jet stream in the Arctic will dip down much farther than normal, allowing some very cold air to come down in this direction. The thing is that the AO stays negative and both computer models have us seeing about 2 major pushes of very cool air in this direction! I will have more on this tonight!
