Wet and Cold Leading up to Thanksgiving | News
We have a lot to watch for the week ahead. The cold air is already in place, now some moisture is moving in. Monday will be a transition day. We will start off with more sunshine and cold air. Our morning temperatures will be around 27. The clouds will gradually increase during the day. Temperatures will remain cold with a high of only 45.
The moisture from the west will start to move into northwest Georgia late afternoon. It will push into the metro area during the evening hours. At the onset of this precipitation, there is a chance that some of that rain will mix in with some sleet or freezing rain for a brief period mainly in northeast Georgia. We don't expect it to cause any problems. It would change over to all rain overnight Monday night.
Tuesday is going to be a very wet and cold day. We will have rain all day. At times, there will be some pockets of heavy rain. Some models are predicting between 3 and 4 inches of rain. High temps on Tuesday will be around 45.
Once this moisture starts to push out Tuesday night into early Wednesday, we could have a few snow flurries briefly mixing in as the rain moves out. Again, we don't expect any problems with this. This is something we will be watching closely this week. Any changes with the timing of the wet and cold could change this forecast.
Expect cold and dry weather for Thanksgiving Day. We will start with temps in the 20s and top off in the upper 40s in the afternoon. We will gradually warm into the 50s by the end of the week and into the weekend.
