Atlanta Weather | Flooding Likely | News
The parade of storms is lined up and ready to bring N Georgia some seriously heavy rain with a slight chance of a few t-storms through Saturday morning. Just look above at the parade! We have one coming out of Oklahoma tonight that will bring us some moderate to heavy rain overnight, then two that will merge tomorrow night to bring us a better chance of stronger storms and the potential of some heavy rain. Because of this the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch that will last through Saturday morning.
Rain is already moving in from Alabama and will continue to fill in through the night. The heaviest rain will come in later through the overnight hours as the moisture pump from the gulf starts to kick in. This low level jet will really help to focus the rain in overnight and give parts of the metro area a good initial soaking. in terms of severe weather the chances for that tonight are slim to none. We will see some storms, but they will stay below severe limits.
The system coming in tomorrow night will have a bit more of a cold push behind it since it is a 2 part system. This means that there will be a bit more of a chance of severe t-storms, not the tornadic variety, but wind and potential hail producers. This system will come in tomorrow evening around the same time as this evening's rain and last through Saturday morning, this one will produce a bit more rain with a few more storms as well.
This is not a major event in terms of severe weather, but there is a definite risk for some flooding. The highest risk for flooding will be just to the south of the metro Atlanta area Friday night into Saturday morning.
