Atlanta Weather | More Rain Coming | News
The rainy pattern is going to continue over the next 7-10 days if the GFS and EURO have their way! It has been years since we have had a pattern like this so we will all be happy for the beneficial rain even though it would be nice to have a few days of sunshine.
The Reason Behind The Pattern
The explanations are a bit deeper than what I am writing this afternoon, but essentially that atmosphere is in a big traffic jam. It has been for the majority of the 2nd half of winter! The upper flow for the last six weeks has been dominated by a massive upper low over the NE 1/3 of the US with a ridge to the west. This has allowed wave after wave of cold air to spill into the central US and thus bring many BIG snow storms to the NE. That pattern will change a bit over the next few days and allow the southern branch to become very active bringing several waves of rain over the state starting Thursday night.
When the Rain Chances Are
Now we are still several days away, but it appears that there are at least 3 specific rain chances towards the end of the week. The first one comes in late Thursday night and will last through Friday morning. The next 2 are a bit fuzzy for right now, but here is what I am thinking. The second one comes in late Friday night and will last through early Saturday morning. Then the third one comes in Late Saturday night!! After that the GFS brings another one in mid week next week, but the Euro brings in even more rain on Monday and again on Tuesday!!
It is that time of year but as of right now I am not anticipating any severe weather with these systems, but as always things could change. We will see some t-storms with these systems, but the biggest threat out of these systems will be the heavy rain! Just take a look at the HPC forecast above for rain through day 7!!! I am thinking most of the Metro Atlanta area will see 2-5" of rain through mid next week!
