2 Surges of Cold Air Moving in | News
The coldest air of the season is on the way for the beginning of the week. We have 2 surges of colder air that will be moving in Monday and Tuesday. The first cold front moves in Monday morning. That front is just the leading edge of the colder air that will continue to funnel into Georgia. Temperatures will be about 8 degrees cooler Monday than it was Sunday. We had a high Sunday of 63 degrees! That was 11 degrees above average. You will notice a breeze developing Monday coming from the NW at 10-20mph. The second front is the one that has the arctic air with it. It will arrive overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. Tuesday morning is when we will have the coldest air so far this season.
We haven't officially had temperatures in the 20s yet this season in Atlanta. The coldest temperature so far has been 30 degrees. We've hit 30 degrees 5 times. On 11/25, 12/30/ 12/31, 1/4 and 1/5. We will move down to 27 degrees Tuesday morning. It will remain cold Tuesday afternoon. We won't even make it out of the 40s Tuesday. It will be really cold again Wednesday morning. Temps will start around 26 degrees, then gradually warm up back to the 50s by afternoon. Temperatures will continue to moderate as highs will hold in the 50s for the rest of the week.
We have to watch our next rain maker very closely. It comes in Friday. We will have some showers on Friday and will continue into Friday night. There is also another surge of cold air that will move in behind it. Once again, it is going to be a race for the moisture to move out as the cold air moves in. It is possible to have a brief winter mix Friday night. I don't expect any problems with this since it is going to be a faster mover. We will keep you updated incase there are any changes.
