It's so hot in Australia, forecasters have to add new colors to weather maps
News

(WXIA) - In Australia, a heat wave from the Outback has taken temperatures in Sydney to some of their highest levels ever.

Weather forecasters have been forced to add new colors to their weather maps to more accurately show the level of the heat.

According to AccuWeather, temperatures from the heat wave have topped 119 degrees F in some spots of the nation's seven states. Officials in the state of New South Wales posted extreme to catastrophic fire danger warnings for much of the state, including Sydney and the nearby National Capitol Territory, according to the Australian ABC News website Monday.

Seven News Sydney said Tuesday that while local fire chiefs praised crews affected by bushfires, they were definitely not out of the woods, with extreme conditions affecting at least three states.

Meteorologists with Australia's Bureau of Meteorology have added two new colors to official weather maps - deep purple and pink - to indicate temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit).
