Dense fog advisory issued until Christmas morning

(WXIA) - Christmas Day could be a stormy one across Georgia and the remainder of the Southeast, thanks to an expected severe storm and tornado outbreak.

The Storm Prediction Center says they expect much of Georgia - including Metro Atlanta - to be in a Slight Risk category for severe thunderstorms for Christmas Day. Areas to the southwest of Georgia, including parts of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana are expected to be in a Moderate Risk area for Tuesday.

11Alive Meteorologist Chris Holcomb says the strongest storms can be expected to the south and west of Metro Atlanta, but doesn't rule out severe weather for the area Tuesday evening and into the overnight hours.

Major threats include high winds, vivid lightning, heavy rains and possible hail. A possible tornado cannot be ruled out with this storm system.

The entire 11Alive Weather Information Zone team will be hard at work Tuesday and into Wednesday to make sure that the latest information is available on the air and online.
