Monitoring Severe Risk for Monday | News

We still have a good coverage of rain in metro Atlanta and north Georgia tonight. More of this rain will continue to feed into Georgia Monday. The moisture is streaming in ahead of a cold front that will move in later on Monday. The Storm Prediction Center has the entire state in the "slight" risk for severe thunderstorms.
This doesn't look like it would be a widespread severe weather event. All of the ingredients aren't there. However, there are enough ingredients to present that we could see a few storms that could get to severe criteria. The main threat from these storms would be some strong wind. The instability of the atmosphere is marginal for strong storms. The wind field and shear available could be enough to produce some strong winds within some of the storms.
Rainfall has been pretty good so far today. Here are some updated rain totals:
Atlanta-1.05"
Athens-.96"
Gainesville-.60"
Marietta-.68"
Peachtree City-1.12"
West Atlanta-.96"
More rain is on the way. We could see an additional half inch to an inch of rain on Monday.
