Here it comes. We already have seen some good rain over north and northwest Georgia this morning. The entire system continues to push toward metro Atlanta. We will see this rain fill-in over the area as we progress through the afternoon. We have had some thunder and lightning with some of the showers in northwest Georgia this morning. We will continue to see the chance for some thunder and lightning as it moves into Atlanta. These storms will stay below "severe" criteria for today. The best chance for severe storms today will be in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
Expect to see some pretty good rain amounts today and Monday. Many areas will pick up close to an inch of much needed rain. Our rainfall deficit is still huge. We are close to 16 inches below average in rainfall for the year.
The rain will stick with us Monday. There is a chance for stronger storms to develop as this system moves to the south and east. The storm prediction center has placed areas east and south of Atlanta in the "slight" risk for severe thunderstorms.
As this rain exits our area late Monday, we will have dry weather Tuesday and Wednesday. We have another round of scattered showers Thursday, followed by colder air Friday and Saturday.
