First wave of rain moving toward NW Georgia | News
We will be watching some waves of rain that will move in ahead of a cold front over the next couple of days. The first area of rain is moving toward NW Georgia late Saturday night. These showers are moving toward the east. So far, the rain hasn't been too impressive with this first wave of moisture. There have been just a few light showers in north Alabama. That area of light rain will clip northwest Georgia late tonight and during the overnight hours. There have been a couple of pockets of moderate rain along the Alabama and Tennessee border. As that moves east, it will stay just to the north of the state line.
Check the radar picture below that shows another area of rain back to the west in parts of Mississippi. That is also moving toward the east. That is the part of the system that will begin to develop more rain and will eventually make it to Atlanta on Sunday.
We continue to watch each model run and see some minor changes with each run. Latest data shows between a half inch and an inch of rain in the metro area. Some parts of NW Georgia will see a little more than that. These showers will push out and eventually end on Monday as the front pushes the moisture out. We will have some dry weather for Tuesday and Wednesday with another chance for a few showers on Thursday.
Our rain deficit holds at just under 16 inches below average so far for the year.
