Heat Advisory East-Close to a Record for Atlanta

Once again, we are just below the criteria for a Heat Advisory today.  Areas to the east of Atlanta are in the advisory.  There are a few more counties added to the advisory compared to the one yesterday. (See below for a complete list of counties and the text from NWS)  Athens is included on the advisory this afternoon.  The  counties in the Heat advisory will have a heat index this afternoon between 105-110.  The Atlanta area will have the heat index readings from 100-105.

We will have a high today of 96.  That will be just below the record for today's date of 98.  The record for July 26th is 98 set in 1901.  We will remain in the mid 90s Friday with slightly slower temps in the lower 90s for the weekend.

The chance for rain today will be a little higher.  Most areas will be dry, but a few isolated storms will pop up late afternoon into the evening.  Today's rain chance is 30%.  We will go up to a 40% chance of showers and storms Friday into Friday evening. There is a chance some of those storms could be strong.
