Storms Firing Up Monday Afternoon

Storms are firing up this afternoon scattered all around north Georgia and metro Atlanta.  We still have a Severe Thunderstorm warning in effect until 3:30pm for Habersham County in NE Georgia.

Here's a quick rundown of the other storms:

-Nickel size hail and 50mph winds in White, Banks and Hall Counties.

-40mph winds in Meriwether and Coweta Counties.

-40mph winds in Washington and Jefferson Counties in east Georgia.

We had reports earlier of:

-Dime size hail in White and Banks Counties.

-40mph winds in Lumpkin and Hall Counties.

-40mph winds in Coweta County.

-35mph winds in Clayton and Fayette Counties.

These are "air mass" thunderstorms that just pop up in the heat and humidity.  They don't move too much.  They generally are stationary and rain themselves out.  The main threats will be heavy rain, gusty winds and some small hail.  Watch for flash flooding possible in some of the storms that don't move.

More updates to come.
