A few more showers today

Most of the rain early today has been well to the east near the Georgia/South Carolina border.  A few additional showers popped up over Gwinnett county between 8am and 9am.  Those showers are moving north through Forsyth County, over Lake Lanier, and into parts of Hall County.  Dawson and Lumpkin Counties will get a little of this rain as it continues moving north.

We will have a more clouds than sun today.  The sun will break through at times during the day.  We will see a few more showers that will redevelop late this afternoon and into the evening hours.  The showers and a few thunderstorms that develop later have the potential to produce some heavy rain, lightning, and some gusty winds.

We will see the rain chances begin to go down this weekend.  There is still a chance for some afternoon showers on Saturday, but not as many showers as we've seen the past few days.  Even with the rain that we've had this week, we are still running about 5.26" below average in rainfall for the year in Atlanta.

Here's a look at the rain totals so far this week from the official rain gauge at Hartsfield-Jackson:

Monday-0.01"

Tuesday-0.44"

Wednesday-0.27"

Thursday-0.32"

As you can see, we need a lot more rain to make up the deficit.  The rain chances will decrease to 20% for Sunday and Monday, then return to 30% chance of showers for the middle and end of the week.
