Pollen Count-3138! | News
WHOA! Saturday's pollen count is 3138! The main pollens present are from Mulberry, Oak, Pine and Sweetgum. Friday's count was 2979. On Thursday, it was 552.
The near record temperatures from this week are making the grasses and trees explode with pollen. These high numbers are coming a little earlier this year. If you compare the counts to the counts from last year, we didn't get above 1000 until March 22nd in 2011. That was followed by a count near 4000 on March 24, 2011. The pollen count usually peaks in early April.
Many times, people wish for rain to lower the count. However, it needs to be a slow, soaking rain in order for the pollen to wash away. The "pop-up" brief showers many times just stir up the pollen even more.
Thanks to the Atlanta Allergy and Asthma Clinic for providing the pollen count. They usually don't report on weekends, but they are working extra hours during this high pollen count to give us the numbers for the weekend!
