WEEKEND EVENTS | More than St. Patricks Day --

ATLANTA -- The Empire City of the South is heating up and dwellers are crawling out from their winter hibernation. The weekend forecast calls for bright skies and Atlantans all over the metro will be out soaking up the sun. Check out some of the events being held around the city. 

Fernbank Museum is hosting their weekly 'Martinis and IMAX' event for the young and modern crowd. This weekly kickback claims to offer an alternative to the "so last year" bar scene, every Friday from 6:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. Purchase tickets online or by phone at 404-929-6400. 

Check out the Atlanta International Auto Show at the Georgia World Congress Center. On Saturday and Sunday, the show will open at 10 a.m. and close it's door at 10 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. Some of the participating makes are Audi, Aston Martin, Infiniti and Lotus. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 and for children. 

Head out to Suwanee for the Kiwanis Shamrock 5K and start your St. Partrick's Day weekend off right. The 5k gets underway around 8:30 on Saturday morning. Participants will run though a couple Suwanee and Old Town neighborhoods . Registration for this run costs $30. 

Almost 18,000 runners will hit the streets on Sunday morning for the Publix Marathon and Half-Marathon. The race, which used to be called the ING Georgia Marathon, starts at Centennial Park and journeys through some of Atlanta most scenic neighborhoods; and don't worry if you didn't train --- crowds of people come downtown to cheer on the runners. 

Throw on some shamrock green and a four-leaf-clover and come to the 130th Annual Atlanta St. Patrick's Day Parade downtown on Peachtree Street. The parade boats 4,000 parade participants and will showcase a number of floats. The parade begins at noon.

Head south to the A-Town Day Healthcare Festival for health screenings, health information and select test for, only, $10. Proceeds from this festival will go to the Diabetes Association of Atlanta. The festival begins at noon and runs until 8 p.m. Aaron's Amphitheater is located at 2002 Lakewood Avenue SE in Atlanta. 

Finally, the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre opens at Phipps Plaza. The activity center will hold it's grand opening at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. Admission to LEGOLAND costs $19 for adults and $15 for kids.

The Cobb Civic Center will be hosting their Second Annual Summer Camp Expo on Saturday afternoon from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Parents can learn firsthand about the different summer camp selections offered by Cobb County Parks and Recreation. In the past, the county has offered a variety of day, art, church and overnight camps.  

On Sunday, Atlantans have two more chances to see the musical "Billy Elliot" at the FOX Theater. The musical, which will be performed at the FOX Theater, has been called "the best show you'll ever see." The story is set in a small English town and it "follows Billy, as he stumbles out of a boxing ring and into a ballet class." Tickets range from $33 to $73.
