Intense Heat up North

Intense Heat up North

Today in Temekah, NE at 2pm CDT the National Weather Service up there recorded 107 degrees!! To put that into perspective for us here in the SE we are at 76 degrees at 3pm!! The hoterst it has ever been in Atlanta was last year when we pegged out at a whopping 106 on  June 30th!! June 6th is the earliest we have ever hit the century mark, and that goes back all the way to 1878!!

Will This Heat Affect Us?

Thank god no!!! The heat wave affecting the north central US will be moved off towards the east over the next few days and will be squashed by yet another cold front coming down. Our week will be filled with sun shine and highs in the 80's!!

I AM LOOKING FOR STORM SPOTTERS!!!

Tornado Count Below Normal

Tornado Count Below Normal

So far this month, we have a preliminary tornado count of only 14 for the whole country, which is way below normal. May is typically the month where we see the highest number of tornadoes: 298. The second highest month is April with an average of 234, followed by June with 228.

However, May has not been the only month that is lower than normal. When you look back to March and April, those months were also way below normal. April 2013 only had 73 tornadoes, but we average 234. Prior to that, in March of 2013, we had a near record low month! The average for March is 98, and we only had 17, making it the 5th lowest count for March on record!

Atlanta Weather | Nice Today And Getting Warmer

Atlanta Weather | Nice Today And Getting Warmer

High pressure has settled across our area which will lead to calm winds, sunny skies and nice temperatures today. What we like to call an 11ALiVE Day (An 11 on the WIZomemter).
Unfortunately it will not remain perfect. As the area high pressure moves east, we will get back into a southerly flow. This will bring in an increase in low level moisture and warmer temps. There will be a slight chance for showers during the afternoons starting Thursday. At this point the rain doesn’t appear to impressive. The upper level disturbance (Low pressure) that will bring the chance for rain will also bring cold air aloft and that will limit any instability.

The slight chance for the afternoon, isolated showers will continue into early next week.

Tuesday Atlanta Weather Outlook

We started off this morning just 3 degrees away from a record low temp.  We hit 45 degrees this morning.  The record low for today's date is 42.  Our high today didn't even make it to the 70s.  Our high was 69 degrees.  The average high for today's date is 79.
