Weekend Rain Chances

Check out the video update for the latest on the timing of the showers moving in for the weekend.

They will linger with us for a while into next week.  We are even watching the potential for some thunderstorms Tuesday night into Wednesday.

I'll have more later!

Warm Air Returns

Temperature are finally getting back to normal (High:52/Low:34). Temps will be in the 60s just in time for the weekend, but we will pay for the warmer weather with clouds and rain. Look for a 30 to 40% Chance of showers through the weekend and into the beginning of next week.

Take a look at the video forecast.

Rain Showers Getting Closer for the Weekend

Check out the newly updated video forecast for the timing on the next rain system moving our way!

Warming Up!

After a frigid start at 22 degrees this morning, it warmed nicely today.  Our high was 52 this afternoon.  We are seeing a few high thin clouds move overhead.  You will still be able to see the stars tonight through those high thin clouds.

Speaking of stars, did you brave the cold to see the Quadrantid Meteor Shower overnight?  I got some tweets and facebook posts from folks who said they saw a few overnight.  Check out the picture below from the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville.  The picture is from their Fireball Camera!

The warming trend will continue for the next few days.  It will be cold, but not AS cold in the morning.  We will get down to 33 in the city.  It will dip to below freezing outside the city.  It will warm even more Thursday afternoon with a high of 54.

Too Cold for Meteor Shower Viewing?

The Quadrantid Meteor Shower is overnight.  It will peak around 2am in the metro area.  The sky condition should be good for viewing since there aren't any clouds.  If you want to hang out in the middle of the night to watch for this meteor shower, you will have to bundle up!  Temps will be in the 20s at 2am.

Here is more info that I have cut and pasted from Spaceweather.com:

The Quadrantid meteor shower is one of the year's best, often producing more than 100 meteors per hour from a radiant near the North Star. In 2012 forecasters expect the shower to peak around 07:20 UT (02:20 am EST) on Wednesday, January 4. The peak is brief, typically lasting no more than an hour or so, and it does not always occur at the forecasted time, so observers are encouraged to be alert for meteors throughout the early hours of January 4th.

Another Cold Night/Then Warming

What a cold day!  It was frigid this morning with low temps down to 22 degrees.  With the wind chill, it felt like it was in the single digits.  We only got up to 35 degrees this afternoon for a high.  It is going to be really cold again tonight.  We will move down to 23 degrees by morning.

The wind has settled down a little.  Our peak wind gust earlier was 36mph.  Since the wind is getting lighter, the wind chill won't be as much of an issue as it was this morning.

After another frigid start on Wednesday, we will begin to warm a little more.  Highs Wednesday afternoon will be up to 48.  We'll go to 53 Thursday, 58 Friday, then back to the 60s Saturday.

We will see a better chance for some showers Saturday and early Sunday.

I'll have more on tonight's meteor shower a little later.  Clear skies for viewing the peak after 2am, but it will be COLD!
