WEATHER BLOG | Some Flurries North, Frigid For the Rest of Us

The cold air is here!  The wind continues to whip up from the NW at 15-20mph.  The wind advisory that was supposed to expire at 7pm has been extended until 1am.  That wind continues to push more cold air toward the south.

A few clouds have moved in over extreme north Georgia.  The cold air is squeezing out any moisture from those clouds in the form of a few snow flurries.  We have reports of flurries in Blairsville and scattered over the mountain region of the state.  We aren't expecting any accumulation with the snow.

The big story will be the drop in temperatures.  We expect a low in Atlanta of 22 degrees.  Many areas outside the city will be in the upper teens.  It will still be breezy in the morning, too.  We will have wind chills in the teens and even some single digits.  It will move to 32 degrees around 9pm tonight.  It will stay below freezing for about 16 hours until noon on Tuesday.

Cold Air Arrives

Cold Air Arrives

Cold air will be moving in this afternoon with winds picking up. A tight gradient between an area of low pressure of the east coast and High pressure building in form the west. Winds today will be between 15 and 25mph. Gust as high as 35mph. A Wind Advisory will be in effect until 7pm.
Flurries are possible in the north GA mountains this afternoon. Little to no accumulation expected.
The coldest air of the season will be felt tonight as low drop of into the low 20s. Another cold day for Tuesday, with sunshine. Highs will reach near 40.
We will gradually warm up as we head toward the middle of the week. The skies will remain dry for much of the week. Next chance for percip will come back to us by the weekend. Temps will be warm enough that we will only see showers.

Cold Front on the Way!

Here's a quick update before we go on the air at 9am.  Hope you are doing well this morning as we welcome 2012!  We are starting off mild with some clouds around.  These clouds are in advance of the cold front moving our way.  There will be just a few light rain drops possible until around noon.

The front passes this afternoon.  That front is the leading edge of the colder air that will continue moving in later this afternoon and tonight.

Overnight lows dip to 32 by morning.  Then it gets even colder for Tuesday and Wednesday.  Check out the video forecast for the details!

Happy New Year-Changing More than the Calendar

Here's the updated video forecast for New Year's Day!  Colder air is on the way.

New Year's Eve Forecast-Changes for 2012

Our high temperature today made it up to 66 degrees!  That's 14 degrees above average!  We will have mostly clear skies this evening leading up to nice weather to ring in 2012.  At midnight, temperatures will be right at 50 degrees.  Not too cold and not too warm either.

A few clouds will build overnight ahead of a front that is moving in.  We will start off the day Sunday with mostly cloudy skies and a few scattered sprinkles.  A brisk front will sweep through around noon.  That will push the clouds and sprinkles south and east.  That front will also be the leading edge of the much cooler air that is moving our way.

Sunday afternoon, more sunshine will break through.  The wind will kick up and the cooler air will begin to filter in.  High temps for Sunday are tricky.  We'll have a high of 59 around noon time, then we will begin to cool off after the front passes for the rest of the afternoon.
