Snow Out West in Bartow and Floyd Counties, but it's the Wind!

Snow Out West in Bartow and Floyd Counties, but it's the Wind!

The Snow Gets The Headlines

Snow will continue to try to make it into the metro, but I still think this batch up here disipates before making into Atlanta. Again, N Cobb, N Fulton have the potential to see a few flakes as we have seen a few here and there across the north metro.

The Wind is the Big Story

We already have had reports of power outages in Woodstock and a few other locations. The wind will continue to blow around 35-40 mph tonight! Check out some of the wind gusts down below!! The good news is that the winds should slowly subside by the early morning hours across the state and we won't have as bad of gusts. The winds will still be up big time tomorrow, but nowhere near as bad as they are tonight.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for 11 counties in north Georgia. The advisory includes the cities of Blairsville, Chatsworth, Cleveland, Dalton and Dahlonega.

The advisory will be in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday.

Wind and Cold Air Returns

WIND ADVISORY in effect until Midnight. Winds will be out of the West at 15 to 25mph.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 7pm tonight through 7am Friday.

Few clouds over head this morning rotating around the area of low pressure that brought the isolated thunderstorms. That low is pulling away to the Northeast, but another cold front will move through this afternoon and bring a chance for snow in the North GA mountains. The front does not have a lot of moisture to work with, so only expecting light accumulations if any. Up to an inch in the higher elevations.

Sunshine will return for Friday, but much cooler behind the front. Friday’s high will only be in the low 40s.

Snow Looking More and More Likely

Snow Looking More and More Likely

Latest models are coming in and it is still showing very good chances for some light snow in the N Georgia mountains tomorrow night mainly after 7pm. Down below is the latest RPM (our local model) and it is showing a dusting to an inch up north. The National Weather Service has a few flurries as far south as northern metro counties such as North Paulding, Cobb, Fulton, and Gwinnett. I still think that might be a bit too far south since the cold air will arive at almost the same time the precip starts to wind down. None the less, there is a glimer of a chance.
