Cold Returns/Weekend Showers

Cold Returns/Weekend Showers

I'm back in to work today after having the weekend off!  I'm in for Mike tonight so he can help his son celebrate his birthday!!  I first wanted to share a photo of a beautiful sunset taken by my daughter on our family weekend trip.  We took a quick trip to Perdido Key, Florida for the long weekend.  Y'all are always so nice to share sunset and weather pictures with us, so I couldn't resist sharing this one with you!

It's definitely not beach weather here in Atlanta.  The cold air moved back in today.  So far, as of 4pm, our highest temperature has been 47.  (We'll get the official high when the climatological data comes out between 4:30 and 4:45pm.)  It will be getting colder tonight.  We will have mostly clear skies with temps moving down to 29 degrees in the city by morning.  Many areas in the suburbs will get down to the mid 20s.

This cold snap isn't going to last too long.  If you can just get through the re

Sunshine Returns

Sunny skies will be around for the rest of the afternoon with highs reach near 50. Clear skies tonight will allow temps to fall into the low 30s (20s in some spots).

More sunshine for Thursday, and temps will warm up a bit. 56 during the afternoon. Next chance for rain will come Friday night and Saturday.

Storms out West Heading Towards Atlanta

Storms out West Heading Towards Atlanta

Short Term

There is a line of storms just north of the metro Atlanta area that is slowly moving towards the south. The line is moving south, while the individual storms are moving east. One of the stronger cells is moving from Floyd into Bartow county as we speak. Nothing is expected to be severe over the next few hours, but we could see some bried heavy rain this evening, up to 1/2 of an inch additional in the metro Atlanta area.

Severe Chances Tonight in the NW Section of the State

Severe Chances Tonight in the NW Section of the State

Short Term

Rain is moving into the NW sections of the state this afternoon, as of right now nothing is severe. See the radar image below. All of the storms are firing along a cold front that is moving in from the north. The good news is that the air is very stable at the surface which means the threat for tornadoes is almost none, but there is a small threat for some hail. The storms will move into the metro area later tonight and give us some brief heavy rain, nothing severe is expected in the metro area. See below for the latest model updates from our local RPM model runs.

Mid Range

Cold front moves through tomorrow and gives us a big cool down for Thursday. Temps will be back into the lower 30's for lows and mid 50's for highs.

My Thoughts

We get some moderate to heavy rain in the metro later tonight, but not expecting anything to be severe.

T-Storms Possible Tonight

We will be looking at mostly cloudy skies with isolated showers through the morning and early afternoon.  A southerly flow will help temperatures warm up, despite the lack of sunshine. Temperatures will be in the low 60s ahead of the front, then cooler air will move in behind the front for Wednesday.  Thunderstorms are possible this evening as the front moves through. Some of the thunderstorms could produce heavy showers, gusty winds, and/or small hail.
