Not as Cold Overnight

Not as Cold Overnight

Not much change from my last post.  It's not quite as cold overnight.  Temps were a little milder in the evening hours than they have been for the past couple of nights.  It won't be as cold Tuesday morning as it was this morning.  We'll be down to 39 in the city on Tuesday morning.

Our moisture content and temperatures will continue to move up as this southerly and southwesterly flow continues.  That will pick up some moisture from the Gulf.  At first, we will have a gradual increase in clouds.  The relative humidity will also increase a bit.

By Wednesday, clouds continue to build.  We'll begin to see a chance for some showers mainly late Wednesday into early Thursday.  The showers will kick out of the area Thursday.

Chesley will have an update early Tuesday morning.  Mike will be back in the afternoon Tuesday.

Southwest Flow Warms it up!-WEATHER BLOG

After a chilly start, it warmed up pretty quickly today.  We started off at the freezing mark in Atlanta.  We had plenty of sunshine that helped to warm us up to 62 this afternoon.  The air was still very dry.  Dewpoints were in the teens today with a relative humidity at 13% in the 4pm hour!

The flow will continue from the southwest and south for the next couple of days.  That's going to do a couple of things for us.  First, it will continue the warming.  We will have a high tomorrow in the mid 60s.  That southerly flow will also pick up a little moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and starting pushing it towards us.  It mainly be in the form of a few additional clouds Tuesday.  We will also notice an increase in the relative humidity.

The rain will hold off until late Wednesday night into early Thursday.  It's not going to be a major rain event, just a few scattered showers.

Sunny End to January but a wet Groundhog Day!

Sunny End to January but a wet Groundhog Day!

High pressure is building in over north Georgia and it is creating an unseasonably warm end to the month of January.  Blue skies and light winds have inspired me to put an 11 on the Wizometer today!

But changes are in the forecast as we head into the month of February.  Join me at noon to find out more about these changes and if General Beauregard Lee will see his shadow on Groundmaking for a 10 on the Wizometer today Groundhog Day.

Atlanta Weather | Warm Air Conitnues

Very nice day on tap after a very chill start. Temps are starting off today in the 30s, but will modify as we heat up into the low 60s. Plenty of sunshine around today, thanks to High pressure just to the west of our area. Look for skies to remain dry and temps to stay mild for the first half of the week.

Long Term

Chances for precipitation will increase toward the middle of the week. As high pressure pushes eastward, we will get back into a southerly flow. The southerly flow will bring in low level moisture which will increase our clouds Tuesday and Wednesday. A weak cold front will move in late Wednesday and bring a chance of rain which will last through early Thursday.

Gradually Warming Up

Gradually Warming Up

That cold front that moved in over the weekend gave us a short lived cold snap.  Temps this morning made it to 30 degrees in the city with even colder air in the 20s outside the city.  With plenty of sunshine, it warmed up to 55 on Sunday.  If you were hoping it would still feel like winter, think again!

Short Term: Our winds will shift from the northwest to the west.  That westerly wind will help us to warm up a little.  The wind will eventually shift coming in from the southwest.  That will warm us up even more.  Our highs will be near 62 on Monday, then 66 on Tuesday.  The mornings will remain chilly.  It is also going to be dry for the first part of the week with plenty of sunshine.

Very Dry Air in Place-WEATHER BLOG

The earlier blog today talked about the effects of the very dry air on your skin.  Many folks experience chapped lips, dry skin, and static electricity.  We are still very dry out there.  This afternoon, our dewpoints were in the single digits.  The dewpoint is one of the ways that we measure the amount of moisture in the atmosphere.  Another method is with relative humidity.  The RH readings this afternoon were around 15%!

It will be chilly tonight, but not as cold as it was last night and this morning.  Our low this morning was 30 degrees.  We will see temperatures fall to 35 by Monday morning.

Lotion and Lip Balm Day!-WEATHER BLOG

Winter is back!  But it's only for a brief time.  We woke up to temperatures in the low 30s and upper 20s across north Georgia and metro Atlanta this morning.  It was a beautiful sunrise.  We will continue to see plenty of sun today.  That sun will help the temperatures to rebound today.  Our highs will move up to 57 this afternoon.  That's about 3 degrees above average.
