Another Shot of Cold Air for the Weekend

It's feeling much cooler out there compared to the abnormally warm air that we've had for the past few days.  The highest temperature we had Friday was 62 degrees.  However, that wasn't in the afternoon, it was at 12:16am.  The temps in the afternoon held in the mid to upper 50s.  Compare that to the 71 degree high we had on Thursday!

Our average high for this time of year is 53 degrees.  We will be getting closer to average for the next few days.  Saturday we will top off at 59.  We will get another cold front passing through in the afternoon hours.  That front will give us a reinforcing shot of colder air.  We will really feel that on Sunday morning.  We will wake up Sunday with temps near 30 in the city, but in the mid to upper 20s outside the city.

Those morning clouds broke up pretty nicely today to give us a good dose of sunshine this afternoon.  We are drying out just in time for the weekend.

Another cold front is going to move through Saturday afternoon.  We won't see any rain from that front.  When it passes, we will have just a few more clouds.  This front is a reinforcing shot of colder air that will cool us off even more for Sunday.  Behind the front, the wind will kick up a little more.  It will come in from the NW at 10-15mph.

ATLANTA WEATHER | Atlanta soggy after drenching rains

ATLANTA (WXIA) --The tornado watch has been canceled for all of the 11Alive viewing area.  The only counties still in the watch are from Macon southward.  The main threat in metro Atlanta and north Georgia is for rain and the possibility of some localized flooding.  The weather system is expected to drop one to two inches of rain across Georgia.  But, the chances for severe weather are considered slight.

11:15 Weather Update

11:15 Weather Update

Short Term

Rain chances will continue through the remainder of the overnight hours, mainly until around 1am. Tomorrow morning there could be some areas of drizzle, but for the most part the rain chances will be low. We will have clearing skies with highs tomorrow in the upper 50's.

Severe Weather Chances

Severe wearther chances have hone down for the overnight hours, it will be just rainfall.

My Thoughts

Sleep well tonight, the storms never materialized as I talked about yesterday and this morning.

9:30 Severe Weather Update for Atlanta

9:30 Severe Weather Update for Atlanta

Short Term

We will see some more showers move into the metro area tonight as there are some out to our west right now. They are not even close to being severe, just a little rain that will fall. By tomorrow morning a cold front will have pushed through the state and temps will be in the mid and upper 40's with a bit of a breeze.

Severe Threat

The severe threat that wasn't really that big of a threat, is now gone so we will just see rain for the remainder of the night. There are a few stronger showers up in the NW sections of the state but again they are weak in terms of lightning. Mainly just some brief heavy rain can be expected. There is one area of heavier rain out in Alabama I will keep my eye on... It is firing up right along the cold front that is moving in this direction. The instability is just not there so this will again just move in with a bit of heavy rain and a little wind.
