ATLANTA WEATHER | Where's winter? We found it

Many people have been asking, "Where's winter?"  Well, we found it.  Winter is back.  Cold air is blowing in to north Georgia and the metro area today.  We already had our highest temperature of the day.  It was 45 degrees at midnight.  Temps will hover in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees for the rest of the day.

Temperatures will drop during the afternoon and especially this evening and overnight.  We will have lows by Sunday morning near 19 degrees in the city.  It will feel even colder because of the wind.  Wind chills on Sunday morning will be in the single digits.

Speaking of wind, there is a wind advisory in effect for today.  The wind will blow in from the northwest at 20-30mph with higher gusts at times.  These type winds could bring down some weak trees.  It will be uncomfortable with the frigid wind today, especially to your exposed skin.  Bundle up and stay warm today!

Incredible 'cloud tsunami' rolls over Fla. high-rise condos

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (MSNBC) -- Helicopter pilot Mike Schaeffer was wrapping up a tour when he spotted this incredible weather phenomenon along the coast of Panama City Beach, Fl. on Sunday.

As soon as he landed, he alerted Panhandle Helicopter owner JR Hott of the "cloud form waves," and together they went up for a better view. They moved quickly knowing that it is only in very specific weather conditions that this beautiful effect occurs. While the online community has dubbed this a "cloud tsunami," Hott disagrees with the popular moniker:

I wouldn't call it a "cloud tsunami." The term tsunami implies a natural disaster. The event, while it can form quickly, moves gently and slowly. It isn't something that happens with more than a gentle breeze.

Well, General Beauregard Lee was a bit off with his prediction this year calling for an early spring because the coldest air of the year BY FAR is on the way towards all of N Georgia! This is the coldest air mass we have seen since early January where we dipped into the mid 20's in the metro one morning... This one will take us into the upper teens by Sunday morning..

Short Term

Tonight we will see a lot of clouds around the state with the approaching upper level system, and there could be some light drizzle in far NE Georgia, but no accumulations are expected. Temps will remain in the lower 50's through around 10pm and there will be a very slim chance for a light sprinkle. Temps overnight will stay in the mid to upper 40's with light winds from the south at around 10-15mph. Chance of rain overnight is slim, but right ahead of the front which should move into the state by around 6am there could be a light sprinkle or two.

Taste of Winter This Weekend

We haven’t seen many cold days this winter, but cold air will be moving into North Georgia this weekend. A cold front is forecast to push south bringing arctic air to much of the eastern half of the nation.

Look for the clouds to increase this afternoon, and a slight chance of showers later. Any lingering showers will taper off as snow, especially for the North GA Mountains. Skies will clear by Saturday afternoon, but the sunshine will not heat us up! Temps will be falling from the 40s into the 30s during the day Saturday.

Long Term

The cold air will hang around for Sunday. We will have mostly sunny skies, but high will only be in the mid 40s. Another front will approach the area late Monday and increase our chance of showers Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
