Atlanta Weather | T-Storms Tonight

Atlanta Weather | T-Storms Tonight

We will keep the chance for showers in the forecast through the rest of the afternoon. A cold front is forecast to move into the area by the evening, bringing a chance of thunderstorms. Some of the T-Storms could produce damaging winds, hail, and frequent lightning. Isolated tornadoes are also possible. The storm prediction center has placed the NW corner of the state in the moderate risk and has now been expanded south to included the North Metro area.  There will be the potential for hail, strong winds and isolated tornados. The threat will last through Saturday morning.

Long Term:

Skies should clear by Saturday mid-morning, but we will cool down behind the front. Temps on Saturday will  in the low 60s. Remains dry over the weekend and the beginning of next week.

Atlanta Weather | Friday Night Severe Weather Chances High

Atlanta Weather | Friday Night Severe Weather Chances High

Tomorrow Night Could Be Bad In NW GA

I will know better in the morning with the new model runs, but as of right now we have a good chance of seeing some severe weather capable of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes as far south as just north of the Metro Atlanta area. I have been looking over all the latest data and have come to the conclusion that the only thing preventing us from having a higher chance of severe weather is the fact that once the storms make it to metro Atlanta the will encounter some of that mystery stable air tha tthe last few storms have hit. I think it might be a mini wedge from the Appalachians that affects parts of N Georgai.... like an invisible barrier.\

The Setup

Looking at Some Experimental Data For Tomorrow Night

Looking at Some Experimental Data For Tomorrow Night

From the NWS

The image you see above is a new product the NWS is testing, it is called the thunderstorm percentage map... Pretty simple huh? The darker the orange gets the better of a chance of convective activity there is. Notice tomorrow the N TN and S KY area are pretty much in the 100% category..  We fall in the 70% category, but notice how the further south you go from the metro area the less the chance you have to see t-storms.. Cool huh? This is combining several factors: moisture, instability, lift, and a few other things.

Atlanta Weather | Severe Weather Chances up Friday Night

Atlanta Weather | Severe Weather Chances up Friday Night

Last night we had a pretty good night in terms of severe weather. The only warning we had in the state was for Floyd and Catoosa counties, plus we didn't even have any damage reports from anywhere. I would say that it was a nice night of just a few good old fashioned thunderstorms with some heavy rain in the early morning. I always know when it rains hard at night when I feel a little 8 year old creature climb into bed with me.. Such was the case last night which was why I was letting people at 4am know it was only heavy rain..... I was wondering so I am sure there were a lot of other people wondering. Anyway, lets talk about tomorrow.

Short Term

The Global Warming Debt Continues

The Global Warming Debt Continues

It appears that the warm winter may be affecting what people think about global warming.  Nearly two-thirds of Americans believe that climate change is real -- the highest level in two years -- as the public trusted its own observations of rising temperatures, a poll this past week.

This has been a hot topic through the years, splitting opinion of meteorologist and the political world.

Round 2 On The Way

Round 2 On The Way

Showers and thunderstorms will be moving south today. The storms are not expected to reach the severe level, but there will be heavy rain, frequent lighting, and small hail.
Skies will gradually clear out this afternoon and temperatures will remain mild. We are starting in the 60s, and will reach the low 70s this afternoon.

The front that is moving south this morning will be moving back north as a warm front tonight. Clouds will increase and we will have a slight chance of showers overnight.

Long Term:

The next front will swing through the area late Friday into Saturday morning, bring the threat for strong to severe storms. High pressure will move in behind the front for Sunday and the beginning of next week.
