Atlanta Weather | Showers Tonight

Atlanta Weather | Showers Tonight

There are a few showers in the N sections of the state tonight. Most of the rain will miss the actual city tonight, but we will have another chance as some storms west of Birmingham will move in this direction later tonight. The storms won't be as strong as they are right now in Alabama, but they could hold together til they make it across the border. Take a poncho to the Braves game tonight if you are heading out there!

New MCD For West Georgia Today

New MCD For West Georgia Today

The storms prediction center in Norman, OK is watching an area on W Georgia for the possibity of a few strong storms later today. As of right now a watch is not anticipated, but any storms that fire up in this area could be on the strong to severe side. The main threat later today in these storms will be mainly strong t-storm winds and small hail. Right now the only strong storms associated with this system are in Alabama and they are still under severe limits. Those storms are actually leaving an area with more instability and coming into a less unstable environment, that is good news!

Chance Look Okay For Rain

Chance Look Okay For Rain

A cold front that moved through the mid west, that brought the tornadoes, is moving east toward us. The good news is that the system will lose its punch as it heads toward our area.
We will begin the day with sunny skies, but clouds will increase this afternoon. Scattered or isolated showers/thunderstorms are possible. Highs will be near 80 degrees. As the front approaches it will slow down, keeping the clouds and chance for rain in the forecast Tuesday. Tuesday looks to have the better chance of the showers and thunderstorms. High will be in the low 70s.

Long Term:

Depending on where the front lines up, there could be some lingering showers around Wednesday morning. Currently the front is forecast to be to the south of the area. Sunshine returns Thursday, but the chance for showers will return over the weekend.

Better Chance for Rain Monday/Tuesday

That line of storms is still moving east toward Georgia.  The line also continues to weaken as it gets closer.  We will see some showers out of it, but not a severe weather outbreak.

A few showers develop later on Monday.  We could have some thunder and lightning, but the storms will stay below the severe threshold.  Tuesday, the main area of rain moves through.  Still a chance of some thunder, but not severe weather.

We need the rain.  We are 4.5 inches below average in rainfall for the year so far.

Check out the video for a graphical look at the forecast.

Sunday Storm Status

Sunday Storm Status

We continue to keep a close eye on the line of storms to the west of us.  That line is moving our way.  It has weakened greatly since yesterday, but still has potential to produce some severe weather.  There is a tornado watch for parts of Arkansas and Missouri until early evening.  The line has lost some of the ingredients for a widespread severe weather event like what happened Saturday night.  But there are enough ingredients to still support severe weather.

This line will continue to weaken as it moves closer to Georgia.  There is a little better chance for showers to develop Monday afternoon.  We could have some thunder and lightning.  The threat for severe weather is minimal.  It's not out of the question that we could still have an isolated severe t-storm mainly in north and northwest Georgia.

The best chance for rain is still on Tuesday as the main line pushes through.  A few showers will linger into ear

Storms Continue Moving East

We will have some changes in our weather beginning today.  A few more clouds will mix in with the clouds today.  Temperatures will still be warm with a high of 80 degrees.  Clouds will continue to build in for Monday.  A few scattered showers will develop Monday afternoon.

The system to the west that produced the severe weather Saturday is moving to the east.  It is weakening as it moves our way.  There is still a chance for severe thunderstorms from east Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois northward toward the Great Lakes.

The line will continue to weaken as it moves toward us.  Our best chance for rain comes in on Tuesday.  There is a chance for some thunder and lightning, but the severe threat is minimal.
