Half and Half Weekend | WEATHER BLOG

What a morning!  My wife and daughter are in New York this morning.  My daughter ended up on the Today Show with Al Roker!  We are working on getting that video.  I'll blog about that later.

First with weather!  We started off the day with clouds and fog and a little mist and drizzle.  We will continue with a good coverage of clouds that will eventually break up at times in the afternoon.  Temperatures will get up to 72.

The best chance for rain comes in on Saturday.  There will be a few showers around off and on.   It looks like we will salvage a pretty nice day Sunday with partly cloudy skies  and a high in the upper 60s.  It will be breezy as that cooler air moves in.

We will have plenty of sun on Monday and Tuesday, but it's going to be windy and cold.  We start of Monday and Tuesday in the lower 40s and afternoon highs in the 60s.  We are back to the 70s by midweek.

Atlanta Weather | A Lot of Weekend Events!

There are a lot of events going on across the metro area this weekend, the big one is of course the Dogwood Festival at Piedmont Park. One of the biggest issues is that the dogwoods have already finished blooming around 3 weeks ago. Another possible problem is the fact that we have been talking about rain chances all weekend... Things look like they might actually be ok as the rain chances are starting to go down!

Drought Update | WEATHER BLOG

Drought Update | WEATHER BLOG

I hesitate to share this newest drought information because it is already dated.  Every Thursday, the US Drought Monitor issues an updated status on drought conditions around the United States.  The only problem is, the info that comes out on Thursday uses data from Tuesday.  So this picture that you see above was derived from data that doesn't include Wednesday's rainfall.

We picked up 1.69 inches of rain Wednesday.  That rainfall helped to reduce the rainfall deficit in Atlanta to 3.12 inches below average.  Earlier in the week, we were more than 4.5 inches below average.

The info above shows areas from Atlanta northward as "abnormally dry."  Areas to the south and east are are in a moderate to severe drought.  The extreme drought conditions are in east Georgia and central and south Georgia.

It's going to take much more rain than what we got on Wednesday to wipe out the drought conditions.  However, more th

Rain Really Helped! | WEATHER BLOG

We started off the day with clouds and fog and a little mist and drizzle.  We will continue with a good coverage of clouds that will eventually break up at times in the afternoon.  Temperatures will get up to 71.

Yesterday's rain really helped us.  First, the pollen count for today is only a 5!  That's right, only 5 particles of pollen in a cubic meter of air.  The rain helped to wash it out.  We picked up 1.69 inches of rain Thursday.  The rainfall deficit is now 3.12 inches below normal.

We continue with an east wind tomorrow that will keep pumping in some moist air.  There is a slight chance of a shower Friday.

The best chance for rain comes in on Saturday.  There will be a few showers around off and on.  Now, the computer models are pushing the rain south on Sunday.  It looks like we will salvage a pretty nice day Sunday with partly cloudy skies  and a high in the lower 70s.

Atlanta Weather | Rain Moving Out

Atlanta Weather | Rain Moving Out

It has been what I call a cave day...One where you can stay inside the house with the windows closed type of days, just like a cave! At the airport we say a total in the last 24 hours of 1.69" of rain!!! That is a big present from Mother Nature for us, especially since it was a nice steady rain! Since the rain came to an end we have just had a to contend with the cloudy skies, but it truly has been a very nice change!

Short Term

For the remainder of the night we will have mostly cloudy skies with temps in the upper 50's but the early morning hours. There could be some drizzle for the morning commute for tomorrow and skies will be totally overcast. Skies will for the most part remain mostly cloudy all day long tomorrow as we will have a bit of a wedge in place, so temps tomorrow will only be in the lower 70's with is slightly below normal for this time of year.

We will start off Thursday with a few clouds, and then sunshine breaks out Thursday afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 70s.

Long Term:

We will start off with partly sunny skies on Friday. There will be a slight chance of showers/Thunderstorms during the afternoon. Saturday could be the worst day.  Things are lining up for an afternoon of very bumpy with a possibility for strong to severe storms. Stay tuned, we will be updating this forecast as we get closer to the weekend.
