Dry Air Moves In

Dry Air Moves In

The upper level low pressure that brought the showers and thunderstorms is now pushing farther east into South Carolina. As the low pulls away, high pressure will take over, drying our skies, yielding plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will be comfortable today and close to average.
Enjoy it now, because temps will be warming up as we get closer to the weekend. Highs will be around 90 degrees through the beginning of next week. Saturday, looks for now, to be the hottest day of weekend with a heat indices between 93 and 97!
The chance for afternoon showers will begin on Sunday, better chance Monday into Tuesday

Also the storm in Floyd County will be heading towards the north side of Rome.

Storms Starting to Fire | Atlanta Weather

Storms Starting to Fire | Atlanta Weather

It looks like storms are starting to fire off in parts of N Georgia this afternoon. AS of 3pm most of the storms are located in and area from Lake Lanier through Lumpkin, Dawson, and Fannin counties. So far we have had no severe warnings, but as we go through the afternoon that will start to change. Right now the instability is around 1500 j/kg which just means that the air is unstable, but as we go through the afternoon a pocket of very cold air aloft will move in overhead and further destabilize the atmosphere. We should start to see more storms developing around 4pm, this time they might fire off a bit further to the south and move northward.

I will have updates throughout the day.

Dime-sized hail was reported Monday in Midtown and downtown Decatur.

Nickel-sized hail was reported in Druid Hills and Johns Creek.

Residents reported pea-to-quarter-sized hail across Douglas County.

Here's a look at what the storms looked like around the region. Send your weather photos to photos@11alive.com.

Severe Weather Likely Again Today

Severe Weather Likely Again Today

AS you can see below there is a strong disturbance at the upper levels that is rotating around central AL this morning that will "pop out" into N Georgia later today. WIth all the sun we are going to have as well as humidity, those things combined with very cold air aloft will set the stage for a very unstable atmosphere later this afternoon. Look for the storms to fire around 3-4pm later today and when they get going the will produce small hail and some possible damagind winds. As you can see below we are in the area that is prone to hail and wind this afternoon. If storms do go severe I will stream live on 11alive.com again.

More Isolated T-Storms

Cloudy skies to start this morning and we may not see much sunshine. An upper level low will move across northern GA, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to much of our northern counties. The Storm Prediction Center has placed us under a slight risk for severe weather. The threat will be for lightning, hail, and damaging winds.
Look for skies to gradually clear Wednesday, as high pressure builds in. We will keep a slight chance of showers for the northeast counties, but should be drying out everywhere else.
Get ready for the heat. Temperatures will be approaching the 90 degree mark as we get closer to the weekend.
