Storms Leaving, Onto the 4th Forecast!

Severe Weather Update

All the severe t-storm activity that we had earlier today will continue to wind down as the heat of the day is starting to wind down. There still is an area of  moderate rain just to the east of the metro area. This area of moderate rain will continue to move towards he SE at around 15mph and eventually just pitter out by around midnight. There is a very slim chance we could see more showers tonight but the chance is less than 20%.

The 4th of July

Tomorrow there is a lot going on in town starting with the AJC Peachtree Roadrace, see below for the exact numbers in the forecast for tomorrow morning. Tomorrow will be a lot like today with temps in the mid 90's with a lot of humidity to go around tomorrow. Severe Weather Update

Severe t-storm warning for Cherokee, Fulton, and Forsyth counties until 7:45. The storms that dumped around 2 inches of heavy rain in metro Atlanta earlier has weakened and moved away. There are some flooded roadways out there so if you see flooded roadways please turn around and don't drown. There is still a chance of a few lingering storms, but for the most part the storms have wound down for the night.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow will be another hot one with temps in the upper 90's with very high humidity content... In other words the heat index values will be pegging out at around 105-110. There is another good chance of seeing an afternoon t-storm like we saw tonight. I will keep you updated....

Fireworks Safety In A Drought

Fireworks Safety In A Drought

Record temperatures, minimal rain, and low humidity have come together to produce hazardous conditions for fireworks. In fact, we currently have over two-thirds of Georgia in a drought, and about 55% of the state is in a severe drought. So fire departments recommend you take a few extra steps to make sure you don’t accidentally set a fire on the fourth.

1. Use a garden hose to wet down the grassy area you plan to use BEFORE you actually light your fireworks (this makes sure if any sparks fly, the area is "pre-treated")

2. Instead of using a match or lighter, use a punk, which is safer since it can not only be used from a greater distance, but it does not use an open flame.

3. Make sure you ALWAYS place any fireworks in a bucket of water (metal not plastic) after using them. Let them soak for at least 15 minutes before disposing of them in a covered, fireproof container.

Monday Evening Webcast

We are celebrating the slightly cooler temperatures in the Atlanta area today.  We were 13 degrees cooler today than we were over the weekend.  We topped of at 106 over the weekend to experience the hottest temps on record in Atlanta.

Today, we had a high of 93 degrees.  Even though we are loving the "cooler" weather, we are still above average.  The average high for this time of year is 89.

Check out the updated webcast to see if we are finished with the triple digits.

A little "cool" relief!

A little "cool" relief!

It's a little weird to celebrate "only" getting up to 93 degrees today!  But when you compare it to what we went through this weekend, today's high of 93 was some cool relief.  We experienced the hottest weekend on record for the city of Atlanta with highs up to 106 degrees.  Today was 13 degrees cooler!  The record for today's date is 99 set in 1954.  That date will stay in the record books for at least another year.

Even though we are enjoying the "cooler" high today, it is still above the average.  Our average high for today's date is 89.  So we were 4 degrees above average today.

It looks like we are finished with the triple digit heat for a while.  Highs this week will hold in the mid 90s.  We will still be above average, but not too far off from typical July weather.

We need some rain.  The chances for rain each afternoon and evening will be about 30%.  Right now we are 6.20 inches below normal in r
